Kinds of monologue text for Junior School/SMP/MTs (1)

There are five kinds of monologue text we are usually learned in junior secondary school or SMP/MTs.  They are descriptive, report, recount, narrative and procedure text.  Each text has some unique purposes, characteristics and generic structure.  The students, especially ninth grade has to understand them because the texts will be shown in national exams on April 2011.

1.  descriptive text
The purpose of descriptive text is to describe something, people, place, animal, plant in specific.
The generic structure are :
a. identification or introduction
b. description, about : physical appearance, habitat, behaviour, hobby, etc
In descriptive, we always use VERB 1 or infinitive verb and are also usually met adjectives and to be like is and are.

A.
   Banjarnegara Regency is one of the tourist destinations in Central Java, located approximately 150 km from Semarang the capital city of Central Java Province. It offers uniqueness of cultural and natural tourist attraction and worth visiting.
   The most interesting tourist attraction in Banjarnegara Regency is Dieng Plateau which offers a blend of natural attraction and historical site. They are among other things, as follows: a cluster of the oldest Hindu’s Temple in Indonesia, the landscape beauty and also a variety of natural miracle, such as craters where people are able to move closer to its bank, a spread out clear Lakes with its cold water.

The first paragraph is called identification and the second is description about some interesting tourist places in Banjarnegara.
You can find some verbs 1 such as offers, move, and some adjectives are uniqueness, natural, historical, beauty, cold and also tobe is and are.

B.
   This picture is Indra Bekti. He is famous of “Ceriwis” on Trans TV. He is an entertainer, as a presenter together with Indie Barens. He’s also the presenter of Good News program with Oki Lukman.
   He’s always full of laughter, warm and friendly. Although he is famous, he is not arrogant.
   He loves his family well. He says that “Sharing with his family is the ultimate joy, his family is everything in his life.

C.
       Tana Toraja is located in South Sulawesi Province. It is approximately 300. km from Makassar, the capital city of South Sulawesi. It has many interesting stories. One of them is the way of funeral, namely burying the dead body in the stone graveyard. There are many stone graveyards in Toraja, one of them named Londa.
       The way of burial is unique because the coffins are arranged based on the social level. The higher one’s position is, the higher his coffin is put. Before it is buried, his family holds a ceremony for the last honour.

D.
Rafflesia Arnoldii

      Do you know the largest flower in the world ? Indeed. It is Rafflesia Ardnoldi.
      It may weigh 7 kg ( 15 pounds). Its petals grow to ½ metre(1.6 feet) long and 2.5 cm (1 inch) thick. It grows only on Sumatra island. It is a parasite. It has no stems and roots.
      The beautiful and fascinating form of Rafflesia Ardnoldi is different from its smell. It is also called “corpse flower” and really reeks.
      Well … Rafflesia Ardnoldi is named after the two naturalists, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles and Joseph Arnold.

E.
         Our school has a library. It is a big building. It is located between the English laboratory and the school hall. Our library has two floors. You can read a lot of magazines and newspapers on the ground floor and if you go upstairs you can find many kinds of text books.
         Here, the reading room is available too. It is very wide and comfortable. There are always alot of students reading there. We can borrow as many books as we want to.
         The librarian is very kind. Her name is Mrs. Anis.
She helps everybody patiently. She can help to look for the catalogue of books we want to borrow on a computer. We have to show our membership card when we borrow books or other things.

F.
INDONESIA
            The length of this country is 6,400 kilometers, stretched from Sabang to Merauke. Indonesia is a long country. There are 13,677 islands in the archipelago. About 600 of these islands have got names. People live on 992 of these islands.
Indonesia has more than 400 volcanoes. Most of these volcanoes are dead, but between 70 and 80 are still active. Every year there are about ten volcano eruptions in Indonesia. The most famous volcano eruption in the world was Krakatau in 1883.

G.

       This picture is Tukul Arwana. He is one of famous Indonesian comedians. He is also presenter of talk show “Warung Pojok Show” on Trans 7. Now, he becomes more famous because of “Empat Mata” on Trans 7.
       His performance is funny. He is full of laughter, warm and friendly. He is so humble although he is very famous.
Tukul is so pleased as his performance can be accepted by the audience. He realizes that his family supports his success, because of that he loves his family very much. He never ignores them.

H.
 Mr. John has a house in a village. It is a two-story house. The first story has three bedrooms, a dining room, a living room, a kitchen and two bathrooms. There is a car in the garage beside the house. The second story has two bedrooms, a dining room, a bathroom and a balcony. Mr. John’s house is big and beautiful. There is a garden in front of it.
